COURSE COMMITTEE May 2019

Recently the Board approved the formation of a Course Committee to advise and recommend to the Board and the Management Company, matters as they relate to the golf course.

This is the first of reports to the members of the work of this committee.

The committee at this stage consists of members who are also Board members and Match Committee members. The members are :

Colin Kaye (Chairperson), Ross Liddle (Director), John O’Keefe ( Captain), Julie Liddle ( Captain ) Ian McDonald (Match), Ian Genders (Match). It is anticipated that members will be invited to join the committee in the future. Members are encouraged to contact any member of the committee to raise issues for which they may have an interest.

Among the first matters to be addressed include;

  • The development of a plan of the course identifying issues as they  relate to the bunkers on the course. Initially this has been the identification of bunkers requiring maintenance. The member identified  6 of the most urgent bunkers needing attention. Currently, committee is identifying another 6 bunkers to be repaired. This is an ongoing program. . This includes weeding, repairs to edges and addition of sand as required. Management attends the meetings and includes adopting  the recommendations by the committee  into the course maintenance program.
  • The committee has a long range goal of identifying bunkers on the course that may require significant modification. Recommendations will be made to the Board for the elimination of some bunkers. This will only occur after Board approval. The Board is required to gain the approval of members for any significant changes.
  • The committee at each meeting discusses the quality of all aspects of the course including tees fairways and greens.
  • A matter that has become obvious has been significant infestation of kikuyu into many parts of the course. Committee members have identified areas of concern. They have been communicated to management. These are being enacted upon. Members will observe various dead areas of kikuyu where course staff have been implementing an eradication program. The committee would appreciate any reporting of kikuyu on the course.
  • The committee has discussed the ongoing problem of winter grass on the course. The Manager reports regularly to the committee of actions to address this issue. This problem is expected to continue and is a long term problem.
  • The committee will be recommending to the Board the next stages of the Santa Anna program for this spring and summer.

Please support the work of this committee as it provides direction and advice to Management in their responsibility to consistently present the course to a high standard.

Colin Kaye ( Chairperson)
