Board Report August 2019

The Board met at the end of July and a brief summary of proceedings follows.
Course Superintendent – the advertising for a new course superintendent was successful and we received 36 applications both domestically and from overseas. That list was reduced to a selection of top candidates all of whom were interviewed last week. At the conclusion of this exhaustive process the nomination committee, which included 2 elected Directors, unanimously concluded that the person best placed to take on this role is James Newell. James is presently assistant course superintendent at Yarra Yarra GC in Victoria’s sand belt, and has been closely associated with the presentation of that course for several major golfing events. During James’ career he has also been head groundsman at Cape Kidnappers and 2IC at Paraparaumu, Woodlands and Yarra Yarra. Importantly, during his years at Yarra Yarra James has overseen the presentation of bent green to tournament standard (including dealing with poa annua) and the overplanting of that course with Santa Ana.
James will be relocating with his wife and 3 young boys in the first week of September, and will commence duties at Magenta on Monday 9 September.
I’m sure Members will offer James a warm welcome to Magenta Shores.
Dress Code – a reminder to Members that the Club’s dress code applies to Members and guests, and that Members are responsible for their guests’ adherence to the dress code. We also wish to remind Members that the dress code, including footwear, applies in the Members’ room as well as on the course. The Club’s by-laws have been updated such that they now provide that the Board can make changes from time to time and publish them on the Club’s website, and will no longer be written within the by-laws. The dress code on the notice board outside the golf shop will be updated soon to more fully reflect the dress code that was introduced some time ago.
Private Carts – the by-laws relating to private carts were further amended and adopted to reflect the new policy announced at the AGM last December. Members wishing to purchase and operate their own golf cart should familiarise themselves with the requirements of the by-laws and speak with Rob Hurley about the process and associated charges.
Business Plan – the Manager has prepared the 2019/20 business plan and the Board approved it last week. Shortly it will be available on the Club’s website in the Members’ section.
Club Website – a complete re-design of the face of the website has been undertaken and, subject to some finalisation and testing of links, will be deployed shortly. The Members’ app will not be affected and you will be able to continue using it in the normal way.
2019 AGM – the date for this year’s annual general meeting has been set for 8 November 2019 in the Members’ room at 5pm.
